Udit Narayan is not only a singer, he is influenced by his mesmerizing deep romantic voice. A native of Bihar, India, he was born on 1 December 1955. Though the sexagenarian singer doesn’t match with his age from his looks or his most romantic voice, which he has lent for innumerable Bollywood numbers. Along with Hindi, he sang for Bhojpuri, Nepali & Maithili. He has also sung in various other languages including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Odia & Bengali.

Life & Career of Udit Narayan

The ever-smiling face and pleasant personality is another plus point for the beautiful & romantic voice of the Bollywood singer. He did his schooling at Shree Public Bhindeshwari Secondary School, Nepal. And intermediate from Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus, Kathmandu, Nepal. There he got a musical scholarship for Napalese through Indian Embassy. Then he moved to Mumbai to pursue his dream. Finally, we all know how much he got fulfilled his dream in the tinsel town. He got admission under ‘Pandit Dinkar Kaikini’ in Bhartiya Vidya Bhaban, Mumbai.

Udit Narayan began his career by singing Maithili, Bhojpuri, and Nepali folk songs for Radio Nepal in the early 1970s when he was in his native country, Nepal. In 1980, he got to sing his first Hindi number as a playback male for the movie Unees Bees. He got to sing with two legendary singers of Bollywood Mohammad Rafi & Kishore Kumar. However, his success begins with 1988 Aamir Khan, Juhi Chawla starrer debut blockbuster movie  Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. From the movie, the song “Papa Kehte Hain” brought him his first Filmfare Award for the best playback singer male. After that, he lends his voice much time for the star Aamir Khan movies like Dil, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, etc.

Success Journey Continues

In 1990, after long 7 years “Mehndi Lagake Rakhna” from the movie Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge won him his second Filmfare Award. Though in between this he has given too many hit numbers as a playback singer. Several renowned music directors considered him a top choice, such as AR Rahman, Nadeem Shravan, Rajesh Roshan, and Shankar Mahadevan, among others.

“Pardesi Pardesi” from Raja Hindustani again Aamir Khan starrer movie gave him the opportunity to fetch his 3rd Filmfare Award. His voice used to match with any leading actor of Bollywood. Though he was invisibly paired with Aamir Khan with many hit songs in many of his movies. Same time he has lent his melodious voice for Shahrukh Khan in notable movies like Darr, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dil To Pagal Hai, Mohabbatein, Devdas, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Swades, Veer Zaara, etc. Udit last lent his voice to Shah Rukh Khan in Don-The Chase Begins Again (2006) for the song “Khaike Paan Banaraswala” which was a super hit.

Apart from Filmfare, he won Star Screen Award Best Male Playback 2 times, Zee Cine Awards Best Playback Male Singer for a time, IIFA once. Prabal Gorkha Dakshin Bahu in Nepal is a National Award from Nepal Govt. He was awarded Padma Bhusan from Indian Govt.
