Before you change and modify your Home Studio / Recording Room you must understand the concept of Soundproofing and Sound Absorbing. Soundproof means to protect both unwanted internal sound [should stay inside, and don’t disturb your neighbors] and external sound [should stay outside, and don’t disturb your recordings] where as Sound Absorbing means reduce the reflect of sound and noise.

Sound-absorbing and Soundproof materials –

Sound-absorbing materials will absorb most of the sound energy that collides with them and will not reflect much. These qualities make them useful in the control of noise within a enclosure room. Where as the Soundproofing materials involves in adding mass, damping, decoupling, and absorbing. These soundproof materials are usually dense and heavy, which allows them to decouple structures. And because of there density, instead of sound waves penetrating through the structure, they are reflected back into the space.

So if you are planning for using any materials for your recroding room, you need to consider all four walls , floor and even roof of your room.
