Audient-Evo-4
Audient is the prominent name in mixing desks, mainly used by the high-end recording studios, but now they are gaining popularity in making small-to-medium-sized interfaces. One of them is the Audient-Evo-4. This is a brand new & compact one.
Controls are a little bit different from other interfaces but once you get used to it is a breeze to work with. It is as easy as can operate through the four-step instruction leaflet. Surprisingly tiny in size just about 14×6.7cm, gives it a feature called highly portable. So no bulky AC power adapters are needed. Plugging in with a single USB-C cable.
Two speaker outs around the back complete the connections and a central main dial control the level of that output plus the number of other levels determined largely by which buttons on the top of the panel you press, these being 1 and 2 (for the input levels), and output (bottom right) plus a final button that means the dial adjusts the mix between the input and DAW. Using the headphone socket means the main dial controls this level.
The EVO 4 is a two‑channel in/out audio interface. The microphone inputs on the back are combi jacks and will take XLR microphone and regular jack inputs at line level. For guitar, a Hi‑Z input is located on the front, and routes to channel 1. This is run by JFET transistor technology for some added tone. The EVO 8 is the same, just with an extra pair of combi inputs, which it stretches to accommodate an additional pair of line‑level outputs plus a second headphone output. The EVO 8 comes with a USB‑C cable which allows it to pull in 48V phantom power over USB to run all four microphone inputs, although if you use a USB‑C to USB‑A cable or adapter it will only be able to power two inputs over bus powering. The EVO 4 comes with the USB‑C to USB‑A cable as it only has two microphone inputs to power.
Smart gain, 2 channels, Audio Loop-back, free Arc software bundle, Monitor Mix/Monitor Pan, volume out, +48 phantom power are few key features of this interface. The big green button invokes the Smartgain feature. The preamps and A/D conversion are transparent, capturing the sound of my go-to instruments without introducing unwanted artifacts or tonal changes.
