Bappi Lahiri is an Indian musician who has composed, sung, and performed in many different languages, including Bengali, Hindi, Assamese, Oriya, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu. His contribution to Bengali film music is noteworthy. He was born on 8 October 1942 in a village named ‘Kanchrapara’ of 24-Parganas district (now in West Bengal), India. The son of composer and musician Raghunath Prasad Lahiri and Anjana Devi, he had an early introduction to music through his father’s band “Cine Orchestra”.
