Violin The String Instrument
This is one of the oldest string instruments which evolved during the Renaissance. In the 16th century, approximately 1550 first constructed Violin in Italy. The smallest and highest-pitched of the string instrument family. Sometimes it used to be called a fiddle. Belongs to the chordophone family. It is widely used in Western music, whether it is folk, country music, or jazz, rock can accompany any orchestra or can play alone as a solo instrument.
Tuning
The violin is tuned in a perfect circle of fifths. A range of a Violin can play from the G below middle C, known as G3, up to a high E two octaves above its highest string, known as E7. Each of the four strings is tuned a fifth apart. The viol differs from the violin in that it has six, seven, or more strings tuned in fourths.
Components of Violin
The violin has a fretless fingerboard. Generally consists of a the soundboard, maple ribs and back, two endblocks, a neck, a bridge, a soundpost, four strings, and various fittings,Its strings are hitched to tuning pegs and to a tailpiece passing over a bridge held in place by the pressure of the strings. Under the treble foot of the bridge and wedged between the violin belly and back the sound post, made of maple wood. A narrow wood bar, called bass bar, supports the belly & influence to the resonance of the instrument. By pine-lined maple the ribs has been constructed.
During the 17th century, the violin became an important instrument in the orchestra. Around 1786, François Tourte created the modern bow, standardizing its length and weight. Chin rest invented to make it easy to hold and increased its range of play. Violinist can play the highest notes, which can produce heavy high pitched sound by the help of the extra long neck and fingerboard, which modified in 19th century. Violin can create any mood with it’s versatile sound quality, sad, happy, celebration, dejected.
