What is Filter in music?
A Filter is used to cut-off or cut-down the brightness to so mething more suitable. This resultant sound is routed to an amplifier. Filter in music eliminates some unwanted frequencies from a signal or sound wave.
There are three type of filter –
- Low Pass
- High Pass
- Band Pass
Filter in music accept a wave input and produce a filtered version of the wave as output.
Low-Pass – Frequencies above a cut-off point are attenuated. Has a similar effect a turning down the treble control of the HiFi. The Filter sets the cut-off points.
High-Pass – Frequencies below a cut-off point are attenuated. Has a similar effect as tuning down the bass control.
Band-Pass– Frequencies above and below a cut-off points are attenuated. Filter parameters can be set globally for a particular sound or more usually the can have an envelope that modifies the filter cut-off point over time, to simulate more natural sounds.
